Blackcurrant Toddy

May 2nd, 2024 Drink of the Week

This is a delicious warming concoction, perfect for when you’re feeling unwell or in need of a hug in a mug. I used a Barker’s of Geraldine blackcurrant fruit syrup but you can substitute with any blackcurrant syrup. This drink is seriously delicious, warming and soothing with a lovely delicate spicy hum that lingers after you have finished it.

1/2 cup blackcurrant fruit syrup
1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
3 cups water
6 whole cloves
6 cardamom pods
1/4 tsp mixed spice
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 cinnamon sticks
1 slice of orange or lemon

Place all ingredients in a pot and bring to the boil.
Simmer gently for 5 minutes.
Serve in your favourite mug.

Sober Story: Graham

"The obsession and desire for a drink was there daily for at least the first 9 months. I sometimes only got through by breaking the day into hours."

Sober Story: Sharleen

"If people asked me how long I was doing it for, I would reply “I don’t know, all I know is I'm not drinking today.” Every night as I went off to sleep I acknowledged myself for not drinking that day."

Sober Story: Taryn

"I wasn’t a daily drinker, but I was a binge drinker and my drinking was usually accompanied with drug use, as well. The last months of my drinking/substance use were very chaotic."
