James's Hot Chocolate

June 16th, 2025 Drink of the Week

James's hot chocolate

My lovely colleague James makes a declious hot chocolate every day at work. I've always been jealous of how yummy it looks and and super impressed with the care and attention he pays to the drink making ritual. And now we are fortunate that he has shared his recipe with us! Thanks James 😍

Ingredients:

400 ml milk (you can use different kinds of milk, such as almond or oat milk)
1 tbsp good quality Cocoa Powder (the cocoa powder is the most crucial ingredient in this hot chocolate)
1.5 tbsp sugar (dark sugars, such as Dark Cane Sugar, Brown sugar, and Raw sugar are excellent for this and add extra richness)
Small pinch of sea salt
1 tsp vanilla extract

Method:

Heat the milk in your mug in a microwave on high for 2.5 minutes
Mix cocoa powder, sugar, and sea salt together in a separate bowl
Once the milk is heated, spoon the hot chocolate mixture into the milk and stir until fully dissolved
Add vanilla extract and stir

Enjoy!

Notes:

  1. This recipe is designed for large mugs that can hold 450ml, the volumes can be adjusted, but the general ratio of 1 part Cocoa Powder to 1.5 parts Sugar can stay the same.
  2. If you want a sweeter, less bitter hot chocolate, add an extra 0.5 tbsp of sugar to the mixture
  3. Vanilla essence would work as well as extract
  4. You can use a mixture of cream and milk if you would like
