In honour of Matariki, the Māori New Year that we are celebrating in New Zealand right now, I am republishing my Sobriety Chat with Ninakaye Taane-Tinorau (Ngāti Maniapoto) a nana, music manager, mentor, speaker, yoga instructor, and activist working in sexual violence prevention and treatment. In this chat Ninakaye talks about the chaos of her early drinking years, the powerful conversation that led to her quitting, the impact alcohol has had on Māori in Aotearoa, and the importance of connecting with your culture. Find Ninakaye on Facebook here.
