November 24th, 2018 Drink of the Week
So called because I got this recipe from Meghan Markle’s cookbook! I guzzled this entire mixture down and felt so good afterwards. Reduce the amount of ginger if you like a more subtle flavour.
60g fresh root ginger
6 green cardamom pods
1 cinnamon stick
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
5 cloves
1 star anise
800 ml water
sugar, to taste
Peel and grate the ginger and slightly crush the cardamom pods under the blade of a knife
Place all the spices in a pan and cover with the water. Bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes
Strain into mugs or heatproof glasses, add sugar to taste and serve.
So this is cool – I’ve been invited down to Central Otago to speak at a series of events in late October.

I got this recipe from a cute 80s mocktail book my sister-in-law gave me.

My big turning point – the point where I stopped drinking and got sober – came the morning after I hid wine from Mr D for the first time.
