Cutting Edge Addiction Conference..

July 15th, 2016 Mrs D's Blog 3 comments

The Cutting Edge addiction conference is fast approaching! This is a 3-day event run by Dapaanz who are New Zealand’s professional association for people working in addiction treatment. I went last year and found it incredibly fascinating and enriching. This year it is taking place on September 7-10 in Rotorua. The theme is ‘Celebrating Transformation’ with a real focus on recovery … which is very relevant to us here at Living Sober.

The two main speakers days are Thursday and Friday and there are some great talks lined up by people like Kim Ledger (Dad of the late Oscar-winning actor, Heath Ledger), Professor David Best (visiting addiction studies expert for the UK. He’s talking on ‘Recovery and Social Identity’ which sounds very apt!), and the wonderful Mike King (comedian, recovery advocate, and suicide prevention worker).

More speakers are listed in the brochure below (click on the images to enlarge them) or on their website here.

Saturday the 10th is workshop day (from 9am – 1pm) and there is a mindfulness workshop being put on this year which I heartily recommend. It’s with a woman called Jyoti Smith. The title of her workshop is “Mindfulness and Addictions: Exploring the gap between impulse and action”. Personally I’m really looking forward to this.

The conference organisers have kindly offered Living Sober members the cheaper registration fees available to Dapaanz members. To access this put ‘LS’ in the area where you are meant to input your membership number.

Full registration is $440 (if you register before July 31) and for that you get entry to all sessions, a Saturday workshop, a name badge, conference bag, handbook, lunches, morning and afternoon teas – and the food is good!. Or you can do a one-day registration for $290 or just a Saturday workshop for $150.

All the details regarding registration are  here.

I am attending the entire conference and heartily recommend any Living Sober members (who have the time and money to do so) join me there.

Why I Love Being Sober

Mrs D's Blog

I love being sober because I never have to waste any emotional energy worrying about how much booze I sank last night, or physical energy healing my body after yet another wine binge.
