You know that thing where you've been invited to a party and you're tired but it's a mate's birthday so you gear yourself up and have a few wines while you're getting
ready to get you in the mood and boost your confidence and ...
party time! ...
and then when you get there you quickly drink two big glasses of the strong punch on offer because you're edgy and there's a bunch of people there you don't know and ...
party time! ...
and then someone suggests a round of shots and you have those and then more punch and then some wines and by the end you're sloppy and loose-lipped and your body feels like a tonne of bricks and the Uber takes forever to arrive and you sleep like crap and wake up wondering if you made a dick of yourself and your head is pounding and your guts are sick and your internal dialogue of shame and regret is raging and once again you are wondering if alcohol is really serving you at all.
Yeah, that thing.
I don't have that thing any more. The photo above is of me recently at my delicious friend's 50th with some other delicious friends and we had such a lovely chatty time reconnecting,
and playing silly games,
and the non-alcoholic punch was yummo,
and the photo booth with fun accessories was cool,
and driving home was satisfying,
as was sleeping solidly and waking up hangover free.
A good party is a good party because it's a good party, not because of the liquid in your glass.
Friends & real connections are what makes any event special - always.
