    Hello Sharon. 🙂

You’ve picked yourself up and ready to get going again. That’s good! I think there must be a lesson to be learned from each occasion that we choose to drink. If we can find out what the trigger was and learn from it, then that’s something positive.

I’ve been struggling too over the past few days, but am managing to resist (also by the grace of God). Wishing you strength too, @Destiny.

Good to know, @Agent99, that it’s helping you.

Something I wondered about the Antabuse … there are so many products that contain alcohol, e.g. mouthwash, toothpaste, etc. Have you ever had an incident where you’ve had a reaction because of something you’ve taken that, unknowingly, contained alcohol?

    • They do say to be very careful. But I have been using perfumes (with alcohol) and had a lime and bitters the other day without realising bitters had a small amount of alchohol and haven’t had any effects of that.

Thanks @Liberty. I’ve started to feel a bit better now that I know I’m not alone. Reading all the comments and personal stories is helping me to put things into perspective. It’s good to gain more understanding and I’m coming to the realisation that the way I’m feeling now is part of the process. It makes it a little easier to deal with now that I know it’s a normal way to feel, and that there are many people here who have been/are going through the same thing.

Goodnight everyone. It’s almost 11 p.m. here in England, so I’m off to bed soon. Thank you for the help I’ve received here tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll have a good look round the site and try to get to know everyone’s names and read your personal stories, etc. I still have to write mine too.

Thanks again, wishing you all a good night.

Thank you Reena. I do need to give this more thought. Now that the initial high of being sober (I think it’s called the pink cloud) has gone, I really need to remember how bad I’d got to make me give up the drink in the first place. Just talking to you all here tonight has made me think more about how I’m feeling, rather than just giving in to it.

Hi Lynne. Yes, we definitely need to learn new habits. I’ve been doing a lot of reading recently about neuroplasticity and how it’s possible to overwrite old habits with new ones.

I was feeling quite secure for a while there, so maybe this is my first big test. You’re right, we are all in it together. I’m so glad to have support.

Thank you b-t-s. I’ve been concentrating a lot on my health since stopping drinking … could maybe put a bit more effort into exercising. At the moment, walking the dogs is about the only exercise I do. As for hobbies and interests, I seem to be in limbo just now and have lost motivation to do anything at all. I’m hoping this will change as my mood, hopefully, lifts soon.

Thanks Petunia. I’ve just googled Antibuse – yes, it does sound like a terrific deterrent with some horrific effects if alcohol is taken on top of it! I’m in the u.k., so not sure if it’s prescribed here, but I could ask my doctor about it. It seems to be working well for you.

Thanks Sue, I’ll be sure to do that. I’m like the proverbial bear with a sore head at the moment – it’s not very nice for those around me, especially as I’d been feeling so good previously. I don’t want to relapse now and undo all the work I’ve put in over the past few weeks. Thank you for your advice.

Hello everyone. I’m a new member. After a long struggle, with lots of false starts, I’ve managed to get to day 50 of being alcohol free. The thing is, for the first month I felt elated, but now I’m starting to have drinking thoughts again and feeling really low. I feel as if I’m going to cave in if I don’t do something about it. Has anyone else felt like this?

    • Definitely… I felt like this many times in my sober journey… we just need to get in the habit of recognising when it’s happening and reaching out for support. Jumping onto this website and checking in is a life-saver (and a sober-saver too!)

      • Thanks Sue, I’ll be sure to do that. I’m like the proverbial bear with a sore head at the moment – it’s not very nice for those around me, especially as I’d been feeling so good previously. • Congratulations Woodle for achieving 50 days alcohol free. Amazing achievement. Yes we all have horrible addictive voices telling us we should get smashed ( oh I mean have just one lovely sophisticated wine with friends ). Antibuse is a lifesaver in these scenarios- I have been taking it for 60 days with no apparent side effects other than knowing if I drink I’ll be throwing up within minutes. Urge goes away and I can carry on with getting sober.

    • there’s going to be lots of ups and downs….. you need to give yourself the best chance of getting through the low times….. I find exercise and healthy eating and learning how to socialize sober helpful…. also try to find a new hobby or re-ignite an old hobby to help fill the void left by drinking……

      • Thank you b-t-s. I’ve been concentrating a lot on my health since stopping drinking … could maybe put a bit more effort into exercising. • I find that to be key as well.

    • yes yep sure, over and over. In the past succumbed but I want to try to really give up this time. I am at day 39.. so you ahead. Distraction is what I am mostly trying to do and starting to tell people I am on a break from alcohol. Can’t quite say I am finished with it.yet which is interesting to me . Need to be on guard as could slip back easily. New habits to replace it……… It’s a hard one. Kia kaha we are all in this together

      • Hang on~ you are doing so well, you are worth it. Lots of good advice from people sober longer than I so I will just say try it an hour, a night, a day at a time. I also try to recognise why I want a drink, am I thirsty, hungry, tired? If so I try to act on those like getting a big AF sparkling drink or something sweet, lay down for awhile. Anyway, take care~

        • Thank you Reena. I do need to give this more thought. • Sooooooo many people here know exactly how that feels @woodle

Congrats on the 50 days! Keep it up!

    • @woodle, I too struggled after descending rapidly off my pink cloud. But I’ve found another one!(day 82). I’m on Antabuse (Disulfrum) and I’m sure you will be able to get it in the uk even if it’s branded as something else. It does help me tremendously
