Good job on the ginger beer plan for the bbq, @ducky!

Having a plan and being busy is def key for this gal! I had a super busy, fun weekend – my oldest boy turned 30 (hard to believe because for a lot of years now I’ve felt like I’m 32 haha) and so we had a bunch of good family things happening, and a whole lot of gratitude-y feelings. ☺️

I’m struggling a bit today (14 days) for the first time in a while. Probably because it’s a quiet day in with the pups – they need some cozy time after all the activity of the last few days. So, I think I’m going to go make some tea and root for the preoccupation to pass!

I hope all is well with y’all 😊

A plan for every minute sounds wise (it certainly can not hurt!), I will do that @jocord. Thanks! 😊

    Haha you’re hilarious @jamieann!

Good for you for not drinking and for reaching out to connect with LS people AND planning to again later. I am encouraged by your example and gleaning all the great feedback/ideas our fellow LS’s offered in reply, so thanks for that!

    Happy Friday 😄

For some reason, I don’t have the option to reply in a thread I was able to write in before, so i’m going to write fresh here:

@ducky, hi! I’m doing great, thanks 😊 And yay you for the good long walk with your pup! I always forget how awesome it is until I get out there and then I’m so glad I did.

Moving houses is stressful! (We just did in the spring also) Are you enjoying settling in? A new space to match your new sober time, sounds like good timing to me. I love excuses for fresh starts 😄

The weekend is coming up – a little more challenging for me but my plan is to regularly remember how good not drinking feels, and that I will *never* regret not having wine. I’m always so pleased with myself in the morning! Do you have a plan ready for the weekend?

I’d love to hear others’ strategies for the weekend! The more the better!

    Happy sober day, All 💛

    • Hi @ShiAnn! My weekend sober strategy for the first 3 weeks was to plan every minute of the weekend, beginning on Thursday. Good luck!

    • Actually thats bang-on @jocord i think being busy has saved me this weekend and meant I made it to day 7 YE-AH. @shiann you must be a few days ahead?? I had my first registerable seismic wobble today but nothing came of it. Thank goodness… i was SO grateful that the clinking in my bag tonight was from gingerbeer i had had at a bbq and not sneaky wine bottles i would now have to hide.
So so tired now. Drinking Pukka night time tea and happily heading to bed. I intend to keep the busy-ness up this 2nd week. #headabovewater

I can relate @daisy – I have too many awesome things in my life and drinking isn’t the lifestyle I want anymore too. It’s got to go!

If you enjoy reading, maybe check out “Drinking to Distraction” by Jenna Hollenstein, it resonated with me/my situation and maybe it will for you and others! 😊

That’s a smart plan @ducky! Avoiding the grocery at certain times is part of my strategy too! I just wrapped up a light workout – a super important piece for me – and I have my 4-6pm plan in place. That’s my tricky timeframe when I want to go to the store to buy wine or pour a 1st (of probably 4 or 5) glass. So…

    1.) Workout
    2.) 4-6pm plan (I’m US west coast)
    – walk the puppy
    – write or revise 1 new recipe (I’m a food biz gal)
    – have a BIG glass of fizzy water on ice with a teaspoon of cranberry maple syrup.

Once I get to 7ish, it’s traditionally been smooth sailing for me.

Do you have a certain stretch of time each day that’s hardest for you, too? How are you navigating it?

I’m one of your “LOTS of others” and am doing good! Week 1 nearly under my belt and feeling positive and committed 😊

I also had that weird wake-up-take-inventory thing the other night. I instantly felt awesome when I realized I didn’t have to – and I never have to again!

    Freedom…it’s ours for the taking.💛

    • Oh wow @shiann thats fantastic! Lets plan for another clear headed morning tomoro. Im going to supie now (in the morning as opposed to usual afternoon) so that i dont feel any pressure to buy wine. How do you plan to get through the arvo/ evening today??

      • Cool plan @shiann. Developing recipes sounds like a fun job too! No i havent anything solid like (plan-wise) that but then again this week has been pure upheaval with moving house. I will definitely start evening
dog walks again asap. Love doing that! And a fizzy drink… thought i might get some of those fever tea tonics. Yum!. My tricky time funnily is around 2pm when its my last chance to duck to the supie for wine that evening (before school is out). I don’t usually drink it then but thats when my panic sets in about not having any in the house that evening. If i can get to 5pm without having bought any then im usually ok.

      • Just checking in. I’ve been sick so staying in bed sleeping a lot. Here’s to a sober day!

      • Hi @shiann hows it going? How’s is the plan going? I took my dog for a massive walk yesterday you will be pleased to know. I’ve been so slack on that front and she’s suffered too. So thanks for the inspiration. I may go for another shuffle this evening.

This is a BIG struggle for me, too @AuntBridge Identifying it like you did that it is the drinking voice and quieting it quickly is key for me. I’ve begun walking one of my dogs as soon as I hear it – the fresh air helps clear my mind and the brisk walk helps me feel better about my body in the moment.

Are you able to create a distraction for yourself as well?

Does anyone else have any clever ideas?

10/10 (in the U.S., that is): a PERFECT date to be a non-drinker!

    Happy sober day, All

I’m moving on with you today, too!

    I became a non-smoker 17ish years ago, and now I want to be a non-drinker.

Thank you all for being here and so freely sharing where you each are in your journeys – the good, the bad, all of it! It’s all so valuable.

I’ve spent the last year on and off wine, all the while popping in here and gleaning from you. I’ve read a bunch of books on sobriety and recovery (Mrs. D’s was the first one naturally! Haha) and have gained more insight into my drinking but not enough to have made it stick yet apparently. I’ve had several good sober stretches, one of 77 days, and I loved it! Then I think I can have a little wine again and it’s not a big deal. But it isn’t just “a little wine,” and it IS a big deal to me.

I realize now I’m actually going to have to fight for this, so I’m here. Thank you for being here, too.

    Blessings, everyone!

    •My 1st day

    • Hi ShiAnn welcome. I have just started the smoke free thing, had given up for 8months and then started again, now day 5. Good for you for starting on the alcohol now, you will feel great!!!

    • Congratulations on day 1 @shiann it’s good that you’re here and that you’ve done a bit of experimenting before, so you know what you want, and you know that being sober is actually great! You can do this! 🙂

    Hi All,

I chose yesterday to be my “Last Call” and that makes today my Day 1, HUZZAH!

Man, I’ve been looking forward to this! I chose yesterday in part because that will make January 1 my 100 day mark, which sounds really cool to me.

I’ve decided to require myself to be accountable to a few things that I think can only be helpful:
    1. Being here on Living Sober every day this first 30 days.
    2. Having a 5-8pm Plan each day (my tempting time-frame, particularly on a weekend)
    3. Blogging. I haven’t regularly journaled in any form in years and that’s something I know I need to do now.

Thank you each for being here. I’ve already been so encouraged in my recent visits here! The honesty and openness with which many of you share your struggles along with the unbridled joy in announcing your victories has caused me to not only feel un-alone, but also to be incredibly hopeful and actually really excited for this change in my life. 😀

So to start, today from 5-8pm:
I will get things ready for my Fall quarter class that begins Monday, add a little something to the new blog, and then work on my jigsaaw puzzle that’s been on my table for WEEKS. haha!

    : )
