    Fantastic ❤️

  • 252 days👊
Oh my goodness all our peers are so right it does get easier. I Had a brilliant night, last night. As I sit with my morning coffee, hangover free I realized I had no pit stomach fight for the urge for alcohol. It is amazing to reflect on what a great night it was instead of convincing myself that I was just as drunk as everyone else and replaying every conversation hoping I didn’t make an arse of myself.
So here is what I want to say to anyone that is starting it is as simple as this – there is work to be done but it does get easier 💝💝

    • How great!! : )

    • nice, 252 days and feeling strong. way to go.

    • And, you had a brilliant night out!! @sheaney5. Sweeeet.

    • Nothing beats waking up AF!

    • Dear God, I hope this whole “it gets easier” thing is not like the million bits and pieces I’ve believed for years that turn out not to be true at all. Like the map of your tongue where you taste different flavors in different parts.
Please let this getting easier fact be true.
      Please let it get easier.
      Please Please Please

      • It does get easier. Not drinking will become your new norm and you go through all your firsts over time, first af Christmas, first af birthday, first af anniversary or whatever. It gets easier, hang on in there.
Find a really good reason to stay on the wagon. For me it was my husband, it really helped me to know the serious impact my drinking was having on him/us. Sometimes things are easier if we are doing them for the love of someone or something else. Does that make sense @yeswecan?
Obviously you need to do it for you, but I’m talking about a little extra incentive, looking after the things you care about helps.

    • 252, boom!!!!oxoxox

I am so sorry @jocord it hurts like hell – but a least you know for sure and you can move on. I just hope (probably not) they can reflect on themselves!

Thank you so much @Mari135 for reaching back to me. Don’t worry about your French I speak it fluently lol. I don’t think this friendship will continue as thinking about it there was never not any wine involved. It is a shame for her cause I am a committed loyal friend who she has lost πŸ™‚

  • So here is one of my Firsts during my 227 days AF. Every year for the last 5 years my friend organizes a Spa weekend at her house upstate. This year I find out on Facebook I got cut from the invite, by them holding their glasses of champagne in a toast at the Spa. At first I felt like I got punched in the stomach I was so hurt, but the more I thought it through I started to understand. Sobriety is a journey of being present and finding out what is real, as much as it hurts I found out that this friendship was never in fact real it was based on drinking wine. I would not swap my 227 days to save a friendship that was never there.

    • 227 days is AMAZING. Go you!
      xoxox

That said…ouch, yeah those experiences sting, don’t they? The need to belong is the strongest need us humans have…it is wired into our DNA and nervous system. We don’t even have a choice, it’s part of our biology.
That picture must have been hard to digest, maybe making you feel rejected and even betrayed. That’s how I would have felt, at least.

And you know what? (I am about to use my French, so buckle up…. πŸ™‚ )

      ***

      Fuck this shit.

      ***
Them and their stupid champagne. They should have invited you. That’s not ok.
      Rude and inconsiderate that is.
Besides…I bet their bodies did NOT have a “spa” weekend at all if drinking was involved. In fact, their livers and pancreas were working overtime and their skin will be worse for it, their mental health as well. That doesn’t sound like a desirable spa if you’re asking me.

I do not want to minimize how painful not being invited was for you though.
      You have my compassion.

And you already offered yourself compassion in the most clever way there…..You are spot on….If this friendship had been real, they would have invited you. Sober or not. I suppose you told them you no longer drink and now wonder if your sobriety influenced their decision to invite you?

Once I got sober a member on here (R51) recommended the book “Boundaries” to me. It has a wee bit of a religious flair but nothing too bad for the semi-atheist in me and taught me so MUCH about who I am, who I am not, that it’s ok to walk away from what does not feel right, and that we have a right to cut people out if necessary.

I am hoping that maybe you can maintain a friendship with them, of course. But if they really isolate you from events just because you’re sober, it may be time to reassess if this is a safe and healthy connection. I am hopeful they come around.

      oxoxox

Just know you have the right to take good care of yourself, and to let go of what no longer feels right.

      • Thank you so much @Mari135 for reaching back to me. Don’t worry about your French I speak it fluently lol. I don’t think this friendship will continue as thinking about it there was never not any wine involved. It is a shame for her cause I am a committed loyal friend who she has lost πŸ™‚

      • Very well said thank you for that.

    • I have a group of friends who give themselves a name. When I quit drinking I was informed by a group email which was “not intended” for me that the group went from “the fine nine” to the “great eight”. So classy. I am happy to be rid of such a shallow group of people. You are so much more than them!

    • I’m agreeing will all the above!!! I have eliminated several toxic friendships and have not one regret. I also deleted my Facebook and have not regretted that either!!

    • Gosh, i hate it, i have lost a lot of friends as well. mostly during the time that i would not, or at least at times chose not to go out for the first 60 days when i knew that there were lots of drinking and boozing and drinking and boozing and not much else going on. i regret the losses, but not the sobriety. keep on. Day 227 is awesome.

    • Good for you @sheaney5!

  • sheaney5 posted a new activity comment 3 months, 3 weeks ago

Thank you – and massive amount to love back to you

    • oxoxoxoxo It really is worth it. When I first signed up here with a massive hangover, depressed as can be, and full of toxic shame I looked at people with 100….200….500 days..and thought: “Yeah…for for THEM…but I am more…broken….flawed…a bigger failure…not as disciplined…I will fail.”

It turns out…”those people” with hundreds (or thousand) of sober days….are human beings like me…we’re all way more alike than I ever thought.

exactly -This is a story I have shared a few times. Before Christmas I was AF for 90 something days and I said out loud that I think I might have a glass of wine with Christmas Dinner, and my 15 year old son said why would you want to go back to day 1 when you are looking forward to day 100. I always go back to that when ever a thought enters my head. Stay strong everyone!!!

    • @sheaney5 , it is a tricky bitch . Good for you , you know where all this blablabla will lead you . I use the play it till the end and my last session of drinking makes me feel so bad that it does the trick . Have a good day and wow , day 147 , what an achievement .

Exactly @MissFreeson this is what I like to do. I also like to have my AF drinks in a wine glass, somehow this calmed me in social situations. Also i have no problem telling people that I don’t drink and if they press me I tell them that I have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.

Good morning #sobermommy1013 I also this weekend deleted social media off my phone and came out of a big group chat with my cousins. I already too feel my mind is now quiet and it feels so clam. Enjoy your day I had to trek the freezing temps into Manhattan. But I am here and I am hangover free and calm.
