248 days sober today. Or, more specifically…

248 days I haven’t made my wife cry for being a belligerent asshole; 248 days I have woken up with a clear conscience and no headache; 248 days I have been present for my two little boys; 248 days I haven’t focused on getting my next drink; 248 days I have been able to focus on achieving my dreams (sobriety was a big one); 248 days of being a role model; 248 days free from guilt and remorse; 248 days of truly enjoying my days; 248 days of healing…….and on and on and on.

So, I quit smoking cigarettes 20 years ago and chewing tobacco 3 years ago. I quit drinking alcohol 5 months ago. Now I’m trying to lose some weight. All of this abstinence and restraint is driving me out my my mind! I’m not ready to be this much of a teetotaler and, frankly, I’d give ANYYHING for a chew! I understand that it’s a gross habit and will give me cancer, but if it keeps me off the booze is it worth chewing 2-3 times per week?

Cross addiction. It’s awesome to be nicotine free mate… Just saying. If you can quit ciggies and tobacco you can quit anything. You are strong like King Kong 🦍

    • I would say, can you not replace it with something not quite SO unhealthy? How are you going to feel if you do it? Regret? Is there no alternative, really yummy non alcoholic drink, I’ve cream? Look over the sober toolbox, it should help. If you do it, we will still love you😃

    • I am a smoker at heart but I quit….lately I’ve wanted to smoke but I know it won’t make me feel any better. Def agree with @ro on substitution and everyone cares about you so I doubt anyone will tell you to go ahead and chew. But, I’ve experienced them be pretty lax on it in AA- that being said when I was 25 I had 3 sponsors until I was 35. They all smoked and chewed instead of drank. Guess what? No joke, they all died of lung or esophagus cancer. Maybe sunflower seeds, nuts/almonds, hard candy or gum would help? (I have really been wanting a smoke lately but it will just make me sick- hang in there!)

    • Harm reduction – something else to chew? Maybe trying to lose weight at the moment is one step too far? Xx

I don’t have words to express how sorry I am. My dad died unexpectedly from an abdominal aneurysm in 2016. I tried to drink the pain away. Trust me…..it will only make it worse.
