Thanks you’re absolutely right.. things are way better at the moment which makes it even more ridiculous that party girl still wants to make an appearance !

  • Day 12 – The Kidney pain that kept me awake at night for months is gone, I remember the whole movie I watched last night, I’ve been to the gym more, I walked the dogs last night because I wasn’t drunk, my clothes are a little looser, I’ve saved $480! 😊

I’m a bit of grumpy cow at times.. the struggle is real 💙

So many inspirational stories on here! Thank yo all for sharing and being so honest!

I made it through day 5.. just and day 6 yesterday was even harder! This morning I woke up feeling rubbish – worse than I used to feel after my daily bottle of wine and whatever else was in the fridge – go figure!

Does anyone else have constant arguments in their head “What will I do after dry July? Not drink? Not drink on weekdays? Only drink on special occasions? What will I do about that birthday wine tour I’ve been invited to in a couple of months?”

    • Yes, yes, yes. It’s a different conversation now that I’ve decided that I’m not going to drink again. It’s more, “do I really need not to ever drink again” [yes, most likely, why would I want to start back?] and “how am I going to handle that beer event that I said yes to” [by drinking water and it will be fine].

I’m on Day 77. It’s easier than first week, but it’s still work. And still a great deal better than drinking.

    • Gday Prosecco 😊

Yes. I call it the bullshit moderation argument. I had it with myself for years. I hated it and hated myself when I broke the rules I’d made for myself (every time, almost straight away) and ended up bargaining with myself endlessly about what I would do / not do, what was ok / not ok etc etc etc

I’m on day 1190 something. It’s no longer hard work. I’m free of the bullshit moderation argument, thank beejezus!!! I’m not saying this to boast or make you feel bad but more to add to what @whynot was saying above.

      • PS big congrats on choosing Dry July. Even if you carried on drinking after it’s a good break for your body and brain, and it gives you a chance to be alcohol free long enough to have a good, long, more objective think about the whole deal. It’s just long enough to notice some of the huge benefits of being alcohol free too – like sleeping better, feeling better, maybe lose a couple kilos, skin and eyes look better, all that good stuff.

    • Feeling rubbish is normal it’s the body detoxing etc, keep up the water and maybe look at a multi. Mental argument hell yeah, some call it wine witch.

    • Yes! In the early days those arguments in your head are constant! But slowly they will become less and less and then one day you will realise, wow, I’ve just gotten though a whole day and not thought about alcohol!
Stay strong and take it day by day, you are doing an amazing job!

      • Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement – I really appreciate it! You’re all so inspirational and I love that you have lots of good news for me 😉

Great idea writing things down – it’s like a bad break up.. so hard to remember why you did it at times and too easy to go back! Prosecco – possibly a bad choice of name, but it sprung to mind because a couple of places I go to have one poured as soon as they see me walk in the door :/ Good to know about things easy up at 3 weeks.. fingers crossed because the weekend has been tricky!

Hey Daisy – you sound just like me!! I almost fell off the Dry July wagon yesterday and again today.. Drinking alcohol to cope with my 2 young kids has interfered so much with my training to, including breaking my leg 🙄. We just need to remember all the stuff we don’t like about it when we feel like we need wine!

    • Hi Prosecco gosh breaking your leg, you poor poor thing. Prosecco is actually one of my favourite drinks , there is a bottle in the fridge that I will need to give away pronto to help me stay on the wagon!! Yes I agree, I might even make a list of everything I don’t like about drinking so I can read it when the cravings next strike ( at 4:50 Pm tomorrow , I would say ). When I gave up earlier this year , it got so much easier after the first three weeks so I know now that I “ just” have to get through the next three weeks and then keep on going…and I am going to try not to resort to alcohol to ease the pain when the kiddies are really amping up during witching hour…easier said than done of course
