Yup I’d definitely go armed with AF drinks to Newcastle tehe 😌😌 those geordies have a bit of a reputation!! Pizza and AF beer sounds perfect. I really remember in the first month I was truly exhausted all the time, a bit more than the normal crazy busy life feeling, I’d really encourage you to look after you very preciously for the first couple of months. I also had headaches which have now gone completely. Your body is repairing and it needs a bit of TLC.
@endezgirl is spot on with not having to explain. I still say I’m having a bit of a rest and I’ve found quite a few people have said what a good idea! Take care, happy Friday 😌x

Hi @ravenscraig, I like both of the seedlips I’ve tried and although they are expensive they last a lot longer than a bottle of gin for obvious reasons!!! Topped up with tonic and ice and lemon or cucumber they feel like a special grown up drink. I would definitely buy one as a treat, well I have!! Spiced is my favourite, but herbal is very nice too. @sharont is coming to the UK soon and I have been pretending to try out lots of AF options for her visit here -thereby giving myself permission to spend unlimited amounts on interesting AF drinks.
    Xx

    • Hi @MittyR…thanks for your reply. I will definitely try some Seedlip. It’s not easy to find here, but available oddly enough in one of the big liquor stores!! Have a great sober weekend ❤

Hello @kit, so happy to see your post. I’ve missed you, may have been me as it’s been a beast of a week workwise so maybe haven’t checked in as much as normal, but was thinking this morning, I haven’t seen a Kit post, so lovely to see it xx

  • MittyR posted a new activity comment 8 months, 3 weeks ago

Evening @shaws, day 16, two weeks plus, is awesome work. It’s so normal to have a bottle of wine on a Friday it does feel strange at first to be doing life differently to many others. I also think people feel very challenged about their own drinking when we say we are not!!
@freedom1025 is right you will be the winner tomorrow morning.
My way at the moment of coping is to buy either treats, chocolate or something sweet or grown up AF drinks. I raided Sainsbury’s this week and now have a new kind of AF gin and a bottle of AF “taste the difference” sparking wine. My hubby has just said it tastes like prosecco. The great gift will be tomorrow I will wake up more sparkly than the bottle this morning, rather than feeling fuzzy headed and puffy 😌
Being a tide turner and ahead of the curve is always a bit uncomfortable at times, but when your supermarket wine buying chums find their livers are pickled and Sat mornings are only for recovering in bed, you will be happily tip top sober headed with a happy brain and liver!!
You are in the coolest club in the world, keep posting, take care xx

    • @mittyr
Thank you so much I’m obvs in a moaning mood this evening and you don’t know how much that reply means to me seriously!
I completely agree that people feel challenged about their own drinking and I think the way forward is to keep shtum in the ‘real world’ for now, until I can outwardly say ‘I don’t drink’ without feeling the need for explanation.
I have had 2 tins of AF Heineken from the fridge and some Asda Pizza
      and feel more than satisfied!
I would love to try some of the taste the difference AF wine sounds delish! I may track down a Sainsbury’s and buy some for my trip away to Newcastle next weekend xx

Ooooh how exciting the pointy end, that will be fun. Yes think you should challenge them to keep you entertained with AF drinks and think how well and clear headed you will be at all times. The go getting business exec with a lightness and calmness that booze could never give, have a great trip @sonicgirl x

Sounds like a gorgeous day @aprilaries, have a fabulous time doing such lovely things x

  • MittyR posted a new activity comment 8 months, 3 weeks ago

Thanks @prudence I needed to read your post very much this evening. I’ve gone from feeling happy earlier to just a bit low, nothing dramatic it’s just I thought my hundred days would feel more celebratory. I now think, but it was me who needed to plan the celebration, just like my friend @winner, I made no plan and so there is no treat to celebrate with. I think I am accepting my sobriety as a long long term plan, so my brain thought it’s only a hundred days out of thousands to come, such wrong thinking. And likely to lead to finding much more unhealthy ways to celebrate.
So tonight I will bake industrial quantities of rocky road – amazing Nigella recipe with mini marshmallows, biscuits, chocolate and golden syrup for Christmas Market and some little cup cakes too.
Then tomorrow I will find myself a treat, my savings calculator is looking flush, and I am going to find something I really would like to celebrate over three months of no alcohol.
Thanks too for your post earlier to mine 😌
    Xx

    • @mittyr I can relate to the lack of celebration. One thing I learned is that expectations can sometimes be premeditated resentments if I’m not careful. I try to keep the expectations low so that I’m happy with whatever happens (although it is up to ME to make plans for myself and my own treats). 100 days is certainly nothing to scoff at…..you are doing so well. I would love to eat some of your rocky road, sounds delicious. 🙂

      • Thanks @sober4real, I think the key is as you say, I need to plan my celebrations as no one else, not even my hubby really knows how life changing this new life is for me. I will post some rocky road across the oceans now!! 😌x

    • Hi @MittyR I totally get it, the same thing happened to me. I remember so well those early days of getting to 10, then 30 then 50 then 70 then Voila!! 100 days…..and it felt like an anti climax! It felt like “is this it?”’. And I went into a little flat patch. It didn’t last long, just a couple of days, then I realised how enormous it actually was, and took a bigger picture view of my life and what had changed in those hundred days. How much better I felt about my life, my relationships, my health, my looks, my wallet, my home, my business, my very self. I realised that although I missed the social camaraderie, the laughter and silliness with friends getting pissed together, and that did ache a bit, and I felt a sadness and pangs for that part of my life, still do sometimes, I saw clearly how much more than that I had gained. It is a matter of perspective. When we reach 100 days we have somehow built up an expectation to feel different than the day before, and we don’t. But when we really think about it we do, and we are different. We are powerful humans who have resisted the temptation of a bad addiction for 100 days, we have become way mor3e of who we are meant to be, and we are on the brink of great growth and positivity in our lives, not only for ourselves but for all of those who are close to us. So in the end the 100 days is really a quiet inner celebration that re-enforces our strength and our pride in what we are doing. You are a Hero @MittyR and don’t you forget it.
Rock on with your Rocky Road in all ways sista xox

      • Thanks @prudence, feeling much better for your post. Heading to bed and will plan lovely treat for tomorrow, you are an inspiration. So happy to have met you and to be able to benefit from your wisdom, night night from a cold, wet and windy Uk xx

Hello my lovely LS friends around the globe.
100 days today – thanks @winner you are always a wee bit ahead, that global time difference and also congrats on 110 days – awesome work!
It’s been a beyond full on few days at work and I’m exhausted, but happy, very very happy.
I feel able to just about keep it all together and that would not have been possible if I was still drinking.
My head is clear and my brain is alert and I can just about manage all life is throwing this way.
Thanks so much all for helping me get to this point. Like winner this is a long term life choice but on this day I’m very happy to have got so far.
Also an emoji fan 😘😘😘😘😘😘 multiplied to all you amazing folk who have kept with me since August xx

You are amazing @sharont, so happy for you that you are getting some support for exploring your needs and the things that hold you back. Those weeks have told of a happy journey and your trip wil be a fantastic milestone treat. It has been a privilege to be on that journey with you. Btw I relate to the chocolate thing, hideous, I ate a whole box of chocolate coated cherries last night. I am determined to get on top of it too!! xx

Hello my lovely @buckeyeone friend, you didn’t fail, failure is only when you give up! It is a journey – your journey – you still have nearly 100 days, have been feeling so well and the journey didn’t end so on we go. You outline with stark reality why drinking sucks. I am holding your hand and pledging with you not to drink today. One day at a time to freedom. So lovely to hear your post, @winner and I had missed you over the last couple of days xxx

Morning @shaws, day 12 is really good going and you are nearly at 2 weeks. You have faced some tough social events and won through. In the early days it is good enough to win on the day you are on, Xmas plans are a way away and you will have another four weeks of sober muscles built by then. The Annie Grace book “This Naked Mind” is really good and along with Jason Vale “Kick the drink easily” really helped me in the first month.
I’m on my Monday morning commute and am so grateful for a clear head and the energy to face a busy week.
Hurrah for your new tea habit. Sending you lots of warm wishes for a really good new week. You’ve got this, you are doing so well xx

    • @morgan glad to be of assistance! I’m going to google chai tea!

      • Chai can be heaven. Best get organic or make yourself. Some has black tea within therefore caffeine, other types simply spices. Hot or cold, wonderful

    • @mittyr
Thanks that’s such a nice post! I’ve heard of this naked mind, I shall have a look on amazon. Must admit I’m feeling much less stressed now the weekend has passed me by 💁🏼‍♀️ I just keep thinking I can’t beleive his time 12 days ago I actually didn’t go to work because I drank too much wine the night before! Hell, I have a pretty good job that I trained for 4 years for! Nothing is worth screwing that up for xx

Morning @winner – my awesome sober trail blazer. Have just posted a response to Clairet and a huge thanks to you for keeping me on track and honest with myself.
So happy Monday my friend. Waking up clear headed and alive and ready to give the best today. No blurry start and dreading the week to come. Still a tough week to face but all the better for 100% of brain working.
Have a good eve, xx😌🎉🌷🐶😎🏖as you say emoti heaven!! Xx

    • Hi lovely ! Ooh love this new site! Emoji are so cool and expressive! I will eventually grow up and stop sticking so many on but for now I’m having too much fun! Head into day 107 overnight! Hey where is @buckeyeone and @mari135???

  • MittyR posted a new activity comment 9 months ago

Thanks so much for sharing this @clairet, your experience is just what I needed to hear today. I know my sneaky addictive brain wants me to think moderating will be OK. Love your New Year’s frosty morning walk with dog and clear head – that’s what I want too. I’m nearly at 100 days and it has been amazing, but I’m struggling a bit at the moment that this is an all time commitment. @winner is a great help for me as she had three year’s AF and I know what she thinks about moderating. Happy Monday x

    • Legend! Yep unfortunately I had to learn moderation doesn’t work by trying it! Wouldn’t recommend really was a very dark learning experience ! 😲

  • MittyR posted a new activity comment 9 months ago

Morning @shaws, you did amazingly well last night. It sounded grizzly but you rode it out and hopefully are waking up feeling much better than the other guests will. I’m with @kitten on avoiding tricky occasions in the early days. Quite a few books talk about treasuring your sobriety especially at the beginning, like a precious gift. It’s hard to be different and living AF in a booze soaked world is really counter cultural. So this morning take pride that you can notch another event as nailed and your body is well this morning not trying to recover from being poisoned. Happy Sunday @shaws well done you x

  • MittyR posted a new activity comment 9 months ago

Morning @sharont, amazing you on eight weeks, what a steadfast and determined path you have journied over the last two months. Such good news too about the new job, it will be great to have it confirmed before your travelling starts. Hope your family are wowed by your success.

Morning @lizzy, good to see you and hope you get all that college work nailed. I really like the Seedlip range of AF gins, I’m trying out AF drinks for @sharont ‘s trip to Uk coming up v soon – she knows it is my excuse for buying lots of yummy AF treat drinks!!! Where did you find your AF gin? I’ve not come across it.
The seedlip range has three or four, spiced and herbal are really lovely with tonic and lemon. They have that clean non sweet taste. Nanny state beer by Brewdog is very good, so good my hubby has taken to drinking it rather than other brands so we are both now AF.
Have a good day. Btw @shaws is a new member in the UK, and as you are the long time soberista I’m just tagging her too as she was looking for some poss uk support. x

    Hi @Gola01
Sometimes it just helps to fix your eyes on one day at a time and have a plan for the tricky times. I guess you might want to ask yourself if you really want to give up. Perhaps write a list of benefits and whilst you can still remember what you will lose by giving it up.
I’m on Day 91 and have saved nearly £1000, have lost a stone in weight, feel much more level and in control and do not miss waking up feeling ill, not remembering what I said the night before etc.
It’s not all plain sailing for sure there are many benefits. Take care of yourself x
