Day 10 for me. I’m starting to find it a wee bit hard. I have to keep busy between 5pm-8pm, then I’m kinda ok. I’m really tired when i wake up and find it hard to keep my eyes open after 9pm but have been reading that some people experience that. had the best sleep though. I’ve had dizziness the last 2 nights. I know it’s all part of it and this will pass. My health was suffering and I been battling something for the last 1.5 years that doctors/neurologists/specialists can’t figure out. Anyway sorry for the moan. I can and will get through. thanks for being here and letting me be me. xx

    • Lynne-e when I first stopped I was incredibly tired my health was also in a bad way. Just know that it is easier to deal with what is going on AF you will feel better, be kind to yourself and sleep when you need too. I used to hit the sack at 7.30 for the first couple of weeks.

    • @Lynne-e 1st of all day 10 well done. The first couple of weeks are strange because our bodies and mind are in panic because our drug has ben taken away.. between 4 and 7 pm are a bastard for me because that’s the wine witch time!! I try and keep busy but also like you i’m tired. Get just past 7 and it calms down.. grateful for sober sleep I love it.. years of drunk sleep was crap and felt crap.. it is all normal for us at the moment but it will pass.. keep going x

    • Double digits, go you!!!
      oxoxoxo

    • Yes yes to everything everyone said before me. Tired, felt crappy to my core, emotional roller coaster. The whole shabbang. It take a while for the body to adjust – but boy oh boy – when it does it’s like a little party happens in there. Sleep – blissful sleep! Clear head and eyes (who knew that mine are actually blue when they’re fully open?!) A whole better outlook. Hang in there. You’re marching through the thick of it now – but it DOES get better. And you’re gonna start to notice it more and more really soon. Good luck!

    • The second week felt brutal to me. Stick with it, it’s calming down for me now and I am feeling less inclined to turn to alcohol going into week three.

any suggestions, it’s only my 2nd night. I have to do this.

    • @Lynn-e, I’m on day 5 and this will be my first Friday night AF. Friday has ALWAYS been a drinking night for me, so I’m feeling that pressure already though the past few week nights have been okay. My plan is to keep this Members Feed open, turn on the TV and work on some art. If you aren’t artistic, maybe journaling, cooking, reading, take a bath… grit it out. It’s going to be SO worth it tomorrow morning when you don’t feel like total crap. And know that we are doing the same. Leaving this feed up and reading the sober stories and how much happier/better people felt without alcohol has been intensely helpful for me.

    • Yep @Lynn-e its friday night and there will always be friday nights and saturday mornings! When you stop drinking you have to change routines make them work different …The focus for you now is to look forward to the saturday mornings!!How about you make some plans for tomorrow morning , go to early markets or garage sales or early coffee somewhere/ Not sure what options you have around you but the important thing is the focus….. its hard but it can be done 🙂 I haven’t thought of a friday night as a drink night for a while now!! You can do this 🙂

      • Ahhhh you poor thing….. What I do every time the thought of drinking comes into your head say STOP I don’t want or need that thought in my head and go do something like walk out side raining or not dark or not barefoot look for say five different colored leaves or flowers. Take a shower or do something crafts. Bake a cake make a tool kit by writing things that you enjoy in it and when I craving comes in go do one of those.. Deep breathing. Find a support person to ring come on here and type what your feeling im sure there be supporter’s on here to help you through cravings affimations about alcohol on pintrest they are awesome 😀 try think positive you’ve got this! Might be on later so I see how you doing 😀

I hope you have a lovely, peaceful and sobee night. Looking forward to another chalked up in the sober bag of dreams🌈 hang on in there x

Oh wow well done you. Ive been anxious all day knowing it’s Friday night and I always cook dinner with a drink or 3. I’ve actually got to the point where I try to skull it fast as I know my partner doesn’t like what I become after 1 too many. I can feel it in myself it’s horrible. we just don’t agree on anything and I take everything the wrong way.

thankyou for your kind words and advice. my partner will eat all the sweets. But I will try some barley sugar I think. they take a while to dissolve. I love baths.

I made the decision today to quit alcohol. I lower myself everyday to this drug. My partner has had enough and doesn’t like being around me in the evenings. I’m going to get better for myself and for him. It’s my first night. I don’t feel like drinking because I drank too much last night but just out of habit I would. I’ve taken the open bottle of spirits and given it to my partner to do with what he likes. he doesn’t drink.

    • Well done and it gets easier each passing day… I find this site amazing and keeping accountable is fun … good luck xx

    • Heya, @Lynn-e. Thanks for letting us know. Shout out if you need a hand navigating this site. Sleep easy tonight.

    • @lynn-e You’ve 100% made the right choice! If ever you’re struggling or feel like you could struggle with a situation coming up in your life, definitely come and post here, I found it helped me a lot in my earlier days. Also get yourself some sweets for the first few weeks. If you feel a craving coming on pop a few sweets. Not great for the waistline but it really helps those initial weeks. And baths!! Have lots of baths! It helped me so much to relax and unwind 🙂 you’ve totally got this! One day at a time and you’ll be amazed how much it’ll transform your life!

      • thankyou for your kind words and advice. my partner will eat all the sweets. But I will try some barley sugar I think. they take a while to dissolve. I love baths.

    • Wow congratulations @Lynne-e !!! Thanks for sharing this momentous decision with us.

My best advice for how to stay alcohol free is plan plan plan. Have a plan for everything. Throw the kitchen sink at it!

      • thanks. I’m off to supermarket after I finish work to get some supplies. It’s Friday night my big drink night and I’m scared

    • You are doing the right thing. I am just four days in but already feeling stronger about my decision. Today was the first day that I noticed while doing things like cooking and shopping I wasn’t having to 100% focus on forcing myself NOT to grab a few drinks. I was so happy leaving the store without feeling anxious. What really helps me is having some kind of drink to carry around my house with me in a nice glass with ice cubes – lemon water, seltzer, unsweetened iced tea… it really helps because I was so used to carrying a drink around the house. And.. also tastes better, haha…
