I'm in my mid forties. I drank a bottle of wine a night (sometimes less, sometimes a lot more) for many years, and went to work hung over more times than I can remember. On 11th Jan 2016 I quit, and since then I've had 3 drinks, the last one on 10th Sep 2016. I never want to go back to that lifestyle of hangovers, lost memories, and oh so much shame.
Hellooooo! Its been a while… Thanks to @enzedgirl and @mari135 for the recent shout outs 🙂 @freedom1025 how are you? Its good to see lots of new members as well as the long term members. Day 1024 here. Coming up for 3 yrs in September. Something pretty miraculous has happened recently, I have reached a place where Im comfortable socialising sober… as in, I dont care at all that others are drinking and Im not. I would just hate to be fuzzy headed, and to have a hangover. Clear headed is definitely the way to go. Went to a party last weekend and danced til 1am, and really enjoyed it. B-) If youre new or youre having another go and finding it hard, keep going, have faith in yourself… you can do it and you can reach a place where sobriety feels totally normal and desirable. 🙂 xx
Well done on day 8 @annie 🙂 What helped me was lots of reading about sobriety, listening to podcasts and posting on here. Once you find what works for you just keep doing it until sober becomes your new normal. It might take a while but it will be worth it. Xx
Well done on day 138 @tipsytoegal 🙂 You have been through a hell of a lot, so every one of those days has been hard earnt Im sure. Good idea to get some help, I hope you manage to find a suitable therapist soon. That guy at the concert sounds like a strange one… xx
Hi @Parky it sounds like you need to go back to basics. What sober tools did you use back in the early days that helped you? And what new things could you try? I found podcasts like Bubble Hour and Home really helpful, and I did a lot of reading. Jason Vale “Kick the drink easily” is excellent. I had a wobble after 200 days and it was really hard to get motivated again, so I can appreciate where you are coming from. But you can do this. Focus on what you want your future to look like. 🙂
Thanks @jm and @lizzy. I guess I need to trust that this works. I am not a naturally sharey person on social media so it’s very weird for me to get into it. It was working for me having alternative beverages on hand but I stopped that because I felt like it was making everyone in the house (teenager included) drink soft drink daily, when previously we never had it on hand. Maybe I will try some kind of tea that no one else will like?! I had a bit more time in January and was doing a bit of reading on sobriety but since work/uni/school year got going I haven’t really carved out any time for ‘extra’ reading or podcasts etc… Didn’t drink today, and now it’s bedtime
Helloooo! Im sorry I havent checked in for a while. I hope everyone is doing ok. Thank you @mari135 for the shout out… 🙂 how are you? @freedom1025 hope you are also ok. Day 948 here. Lots of busyness and a some challenges and stress but I have coped without alcohol. Yes, it is possible. Who knew?! Xx
1000 coming up!!!! oxoxoxxoxo So glad you stopped by, Lizzy. I can only imagine how busy you are. High five your way girl! And if you’re in Frankfurt at the airport this summer let me know, because I will be too. We could finally have our airport date, lol. 🙂 (I am so excited to do my second sober overseas flight, yeah!)
Have been thinking of you @lizzy. I know you’re super swamped with work and school. You’re an inspiration … juggling it all without losing sight of how important our recovery journey is. Well done super star.
Hello all just a quick check in to say hi and Im still here, still sober! Thank you @mari135 for the shout out the other day. Coursework has ramped up and its all.a tight squeeze but its going well. Xx
Hi @andidid you are here and you are trying to make a change… that is brave. And you have had some false starts but youre trying again… that is NOT failure, that is resilience and determination. Give yourself a hug and remind yourself that you are doing the best you can. Xx
Well done on day 4 @thisismenow that is great going. Those first days are hard, Im so impressed you have been meditating… I just ate a lot of chocolate! 😀 Have just taken up meditation myself and also finding it super helpful. Keep up the good work! 🙂
