Yay! Still here and yay to us on day 200!! Wow – cant believe it – I hardly ever think about drinking now, infact just had one of those super stressed days today and just did lots of deep breathing and ate a packet of crisps to cope! I’m so glad your doing so well and so proud of you (and us) Apologies for not getting on here more but I’m still here over in the UK! The Naked Mind book totally tipped it for me along with her videos. It’s one thing getting out of the habit, but like you, it took the mindset change (happened for me around November time) to really help the sober penny drop. Those 3 points you described above are spot on, the body, the mind and the spirit are the 3 to focus on, with one not in place the others are vulnerable. Sending big 200 days hugs to you sober twin! Xxx

    • @lilly67 – So glad you are here and a packet of crisps sound wonderful….funny how much I allow myself to eat ice cream again and so good with it. Before, I would rarely waste those calories and save for wine time. Thank you for recommending The Naked Mind, I can honestly say it was a gamechanger mentally for me. She just gets it and can relate to her. Thank you for being my now day 201 LS warrior xoxox from Michigan USA

Hi @pooks45 – don’t beat yourself up! Alcohol is ridiculously addictive and our social conditioning just compounds the problem. What’s helped me along side this amazing community was reading This Naked Mind by Annie Grace. Go to the site and sign up for the free 30 day alcohol experiment. Do it today! You will get exercises and videos emailed to you daily over a month you help you re-program yourself. You are not alone so don’t loose heart! Things can and will change for you, it can take some of us lots of gos to get there! X

Well done @reena ! Six months is so wonderful – hope you are feeling amazing and deservedly proud! X

@jr I still can’t believe it’s that long for us! It definitely gets easier thank goodness. Feeling amazing is now enough motivation for me to never go back to the bad old days, that’s for sure. Well done you – you’ve been such an inspiration. X

@lizzy – I can’t believe how the time has flown! I’m so busy at the moment it’s hard to get on here but I tistrn to sobriety and motivational postcasts all the time and feel really clear about my relationship to drink now. The daily meditations and the Annie Grace vids have been so so helpful. Hope you had a fab Christmas and new year! Xxx

Oh – so fab! You sound in a great place, the clarity is wonderful isn’t it? X

@jr Happy New Year! I’m still here and still sober! (Saw in my first sober New Year in ages and had my first hangover free New Years Day as well!) I’ve been really busy over Christmas but have been logging onto the Naken Mind sight as that has really helped change the inner relationship with booze. Hope you are ok? Going to catch up with some posts now. Bit cyber hugs from the UK! Xxx

Well what a difference a year makes! I always used to wrap the Christmas presents with a huge glass of wine in hand, this year I just have The Naked Mind sobriety postcast playing! To everyone starting off this journey – just keep at it. So thankful I discovered this amazing community 6 months ago. X

    • Awesome! Wine was constantly in hand here too…what a difference in things accomplished! Congrats on 6 months!

    • Yay @lilly67 πŸ™‚ wwll done! Has it been 6 months already?? Wonderful! Xx

    • Ohh i love that! One year…and what a difference indeed!!
      xooxxo
You have lots to be proud of. Well done!

    • @lilly67 Miss you here! Your post is spot on with me girl….I am really enjoying her podcast – so insightful. I saw her on Good Morning America, a morning news program, and she always referred to it as “mommy juice” and how socially acceptable it all is as moms with the daily stress of managing a home, kids, etc. I have found Sobriety is a better stress management as I am not so up and down. Happy 2018 my friend – glad I “met” you here!!

      • @jr Happy New Year! I’m still here and still sober! (Saw in my first sober New Year in ages and had my first hangover free New Years Day as well!) @jr Just catching up on you’re posts! (See my last comments) When I first came here I used to read about waking up sober never being boring and now I am totally doing that! I agree the energy to get going is just wonderful isn’t it? I’ve been watching the Annie Grace videos most day and getting so much out of them as well. Helping me to watch and listen rather than just read. Sending big sober hugs from across the pond! X

  • Lilly67 posted a new activity comment 1 year, 8 months ago

@jr so glad you like the Naked Mind stuff – I really love it! It’s helping in the lead up the camas as well! Have had so little chance to be on here – massive commission deadline along side my mum and dad moving house, so very crazy! However – with the help of meditating and daily sobriety I’m really keeping much calmer than I usually do under pressure. Hope you are doing ok? About to catch up on everyone’s posts… Xx

    • @lilly67 – I love to hear how things are going for you and how you sound so energetic through all the craziness – sobriety is amazing that way! Yes, I am doing well, and the evening “thoughts” about wine are more rare than the norm now and so thankful! I am much more calm and relaxed, and it is making a positive impact at home πŸ™‚ xo !!

Thanks @lizzy @janabel Being selective with what I do and when I do it has really helped! Xx

  • Lilly67 posted a new activity comment 1 year, 8 months ago

@teazy It’s a tricky one – I’ve realised I used to drink when socialising to Num the boredom of long evenings out! For me now it’s about quality time with friends and focusing on what I really want out of my social life has helped me Create some boundary! X

  • Lilly67 posted a new activity comment 1 year, 8 months ago

@lizzy Well done – always such a boost to get good grades. You deserve that week off. Whenever I sleep really badly I still look back to last spring and remember the awful hangovers and feel SO relieved not to have one! X

  • Lilly67 posted a new activity comment 1 year, 8 months ago

@jr They are so helping me too! She says that willpower can only go so far and I think ghats true. Listening to her talk is really helping me with some deeper reprogramming. X

Brilliant book! I’m planning on re-reading it over Christmas mysel. X

  • Lilly67 posted an update 1 year, 8 months ago

Managed to finally enjoy socialising sober! It’s taken me months as I was a binge drinker rather than a daily one, so although I’ve felt on top of home drinking for a while, this is actually a really good development for me! Still meditating daily and also watching a lot of Naked Mind videos which have been so so brilliant. Shouting out to @jr @lizzy – how are you both doing?

  • Lilly67 posted a new activity comment 1 year, 8 months ago

Yay! 140 is wonderful. Well done you! X

  • Lilly67 posted a new activity comment 1 year, 8 months ago

Lovely post @prudence I’m curled up with a good film, a pot of tea and a lot of purring cats on this chilly English night. It’s the wonderful little moments like this that I love. Sober really does rock! X

  • Lilly67 posted a new activity comment 1 year, 8 months ago

@jr Oh those dreaded triggers!! I get one at a certain time after shopping in town and being near pretty bars sparkling with Christmas lights! Hope you got through it? I’m doing fine – very busy with work and have really got into the meditation and also The Annie Grace videos on you tube – love her approach to sobriety. (Thanks @lizzy !) Check them out – her big thing is that will power can only take is so far and it’s tackling the unconscious that’s the key (particularly going into month 6 for me I think…) Jusy catching up with everyone’s posts. How are you feeling about Christmas by the way? Xx

    • @lilly67 – Thank you so much for suggesting the YouTube videos, I watched a few last night and THIS is going to be something I do daily, boy were they powerful! The Naked Mind book has not come in yet, but looking forward to reading it. Thank you @lizzy as well!

@oceania @ana-m Yes – it’s great. If you go to the soberistas uk website you can download it free. I also had a lot of Day 1s and now I can see it was because I haven’t addressed the unconscious voice in my brain (that works on desire and impulse, rather than logic.)

  • Lilly67 posted a new activity comment 1 year, 8 months ago

Yes totally get this. I’m really enjoying a quieter more level time. Love the ice cream analogy! X

  • Lilly67 posted an update 1 year, 8 months ago

Just reading This Naked Mind. Such an interesting book, I’m guessing a lot of you have read it? Realising How vital it is to change the unconscious impulse to drink. The conscious mind uses willpower to change, but as the book says, this will only work for a limited time. If the conscious mind wants to be alcohol free, but the unconscious is still wanting to drink, it explains the endless ‘day ones’ most of us have experienced as well. This month for me is all about sorting out the root impulses, honestly examining them and transforming them. There’s a good task for the dark winter months!

    • So interesting I’m going to have to read that book I think !

      • @oceania @ana-m Yes – it’s great. If you go to the soberistas uk website you can download it free. I also had a lot of Day 1s and now I can see it was because I haven’t addressed the unconscious voice in my brain (that works on desire and impulse, rather than logic.)

      • Thanks @Lilly67 I think it will come in handy in other areas of my life too and anything that helps me understand my addiction and what it was is so valuable to me right now xxx

    • @jr This book is definitely worth a read at this point I think. If you haven’t already check out This Naken Mind (see above). X

@temperance That is an excellent article. It sums up the total lunacy of where we have got to as a society. Let’s give people actual guidance on how they can control the intake of a proven addictive poison!!! Crazy!

    • It’s something I was thinking about yesterday. Then I realised, I’m simply not interested in being able to just have 2 glasses of glasses of wine and then stop, I’d rather have 2 bottles or else none at all, because I want to get drunk. If im not getting drunk it litteraly holds no appeal for me. And the times I have tried moderate drinking I did stop, but it was torture and I had to force myself to stop at 2 glasses and then fret and pine for more. It was in no way enjoyable or freeing, if anything I felt even more powerless, cos I had to pretend I was cool with it when I really wasn’t. Just more pretending i was ok when I wasn’t.

  • Lilly67 posted a new activity comment 1 year, 8 months ago

@jr You are so inspiring to me! It’s SO good to have you as my same day friend. This is such a journey isn’t it? Sometimes so easy and sometimes so challenging. The meditation is a real game changer for me at the moment. I’ve been doing it each morning but I’m also going to do it at wine’o clock I’ve decided! Although never a daily drinker that 5.00 time is still s point when I need ‘something’ so going to see how I get on with that. Big hugs from the UK. X

    • ((hugs)) right back! xo I am meditating mid-day, but believe I am going to do at the end of my workday too…I like the idea of that being a signal to transition for me….as you know, it used to be the pouring the glass of wine.

Calculator is saying 140 Days! Yay! Haven’t been on here a lot due to log on issues (can get onto site but not into community area – could have be my broadband crossover as it seems to be ok now) Also in week 2 of the healthy eating/meditating/yoga drive and feeling great. Haven’t lost any weight however! But feeling amazingly calm and very positive. Getting loads done and can really feel a proper change in my mood. The drinking issues are really shifting now I’m addressing the changes at a ‘root’ level and working on changing my outlook. Hope your all having a fab sober Saturday (@jr how are you doing? Hope the first week of the fabulous 50’s is going well!) X

@jr – Birthday treats don’t count! Glad you had a fab day! I’m going to yoga classes at the moment but have also found some good 30min sequences on YouTube (Ivengar yoga is the type I prefer). Using Insight timer for meditations which I love. Hope you see this post, how strange that my tagging isn’t working? Let me know? I’ve had problems logging in for 2 days, I’ve no idea why! X

Day 5 of the meditating, healthy eating regime and feeling good. How are you all getting on @jr @synchrony @delgirl68 @freedom1025 ? Without doubt it’s the daily meditation that is having the biggest effect, really feeling noticeably calmer and more positive. Wine craving though last night out of the blue though, I think due to putting constraints on the sweet treats. Kind of shows that a lot of my cravings for ‘the bad stuff’ are the same thing underneath for me I think?!

    • I am doing meditations twice a day in the morning and evening and I love it and look forward to it. I def feel less reactive and calmer. Great job @Lilly67.

    • Hi @lilly67. I’ve been reading that sugar and alcohol have basically the same neurological effects in the brain. It has to do with the temporary elevation of dopamine, one of the “feel good” chemicals, in the brain’s “reward center.

“The alcoholic brain … prefers alcohol to other forms of calories. In the absence of alcohol, however, the brain will settle for the temporary satisfaction of a sugar high.”

I’m trying to be aware of that and not give myself license to eat more sugar now that I’m sober. I don’t want to replace one addiction with another.

I’ve also been reading about L-Glutamine, an amino acid, that can help to punch holes in cravings for alcohol and sugar. This information comes from http://fit-recovery.com/how-to-stop-alcohol-cravings-l-glutamine/

    • Yesterday was not great on the eating front, coworkers ordered pizza and I ate it and then we went out last night so while I made the best choice possible it still wasn’t great. Back at it this morning though! I really want to get some L-Glutamine I’ve heard good things about it.

      • @synchrony I’m allowing myself a few stodgy food days on and off so I wouldn’t worry! The most important thing is it all goes in the healthy self care direction I think. X

    • I am loving meditation as well! I’ve had luck with headspace as well as Insight Timer, although my Headspace subscription is coming up for renewal. I think it’s about $70 for the year. Doing okay on the eating front. Last night went for dinner with friends . .. grilled salmon and asparagus, no dessert. Stay strong!

    • I do both but lately I have been using Insight Timer where you can do either, it has a part where you can just time your silent meditation or listen to thousands of guided ones free. @Lizzy turned me on to it. The guided ones are perfect to start. I listen to the talks to on my way to work sometimes. @Amy.

    • @lilly67 well done on your regime. I’m trying to change a few aspects of my life and so far so good!!

      • @millie76 Sounds good! I’m trying to create new daily routines and slowly getting there. Ditching the booze feels like just the first step for me, building the other positive habits is the key I think. X

    • I’ve been away for a few days, down in sydney. Haven’t been very focused as I”ve just sold my mums house down there and we have to empty it – it’s a massive mission. But I’m home now and back on track (hopefully). I’ll do a proper update very soon xx

    • @lilly67 – Doing well with the exception of yesterday with my excessive sweet treats on my birthday, but that is OKAY! I wonder if your wine craving is as you say sugar related. Interesting. I am going to copy @mrs-d, for some reason, I do not receive your notifications when you tag me. Yet I do from others. Odd. I wanted to see how you were doing so I went to your profile to say I am doing well with mindful eating. What tool do you use for meditating? Do you go out to do yoga or do you use an app on your phone. I do an app now vs. going to a studio.

      • Hey @jr I don’t know why you wouldn’t be getting @lilly67 ‘s notifications…? The system isn’t designed so that you can block a particular members mentions of you. Have you checked your spam folder just in case some emails from LS are ending up in there? x

        • @mrs-d thank you for the note back. Nothing in spam so just odd….but good to know there is no blocking that I may have accidently hit.

      • @jr – Birthday treats don’t count! Glad you had a fab day! I’m going to yoga classes at the moment but have also found some good 30min sequences on YouTube (Ivengar yoga is the type I prefer). Using Insight timer for meditations which I love.
