Morning from Scotland! Day 21! I’m finding an AF beer helps me to not feel deprived of my ‘off switch’ when evening rolls round…and I know it’s not for everyone but it’s working for me. My question is, I am waking up bloated in the morning – is it the beer?? Anyone else experience this? Thanks.

    • Hi @jenu, Congrats on Day 21!! I can’t do AF beer because it is too much of a trigger for me but I do cranberry juice in a wine glass. So glad you have found something that helps for you! @islandone drinks AF beer so he might be able to help with the bloating question? xo

    • Right there with you, day 22 here. I like the Heineken Zero, not as much of a funky taste as some.

    • I find that I get full on about 2 AF beers and stop there, which is strange because 10 regular beers never had that effect on me! Never had any trouble in the morning with the AF beers though.
I have some relatives coming from Glasgow in a few weeks really looking forward to it!

    • Morena / morning @jenu 🙂 Yes, I found that AF beer gave me bloating. I also would have one or two max and stop because of that full feeling. I’ve stopped drinking it now because of that reason, I found AF wine even worse! Well done on day 21, almost a full month, go you! 🙂

    • you can feel bloated from SOOOOO many things, @jenu. so many things. just pay attention. you will figure it out. congrats on finding what works for you.

Hi! I joined this site a few days ago too… And I’m on day 21 of not drinking. So, only 3 weeks ago I was in my own unsustainable situation. Outwardly I appeared to have my shit together but inside I was fit to combust with the conflict of drinking a bottle of wine every night and more at weekends. The truth was staring me in the face and I was terrified at how little control I felt over my decisions. And the guilt! I just kept thinking, I know better than this! Why do I continue to do it? For me, it was a way to check out of overwhelming emotions and fear over my future. I was feeling insecure and scared and didn’t feel ready to face my truths. So I’m not beating myself up for wanting to hide. I needed to have support and self compassion and courage and I’ve found that and I’m sure you can too. I have a dear friend who is doing this with me and led the way really. She’s taught me all about self care and self forgiveness and that is ok to make mistakes. Everything is moving forward as it should. You quickly get rid of the inner conflict once you decide to stop. I have told myself that I am not drinking for now, haven’t given myself any pressure. I wish you so much strength and send lots of care your way.

Thankyou! All I can say is there must be a heck of a lot of toxins!!!! 😂 I was under the misguided thinking that a week or so would see me through this stage….but I’m a bit more clued up now and know it’ll take a bit longer!!

Thanks! That’s lovely to read. I have been doing all the self care things and am lucky I have time to rest at the moment so making the most of that. But crikey it’s sore and tiring! I guess tanking the wine for all these years has taken its toll!

@jenu wow 20 days is great! Fatigue, headaches and general aches is very common in the first month. Your body is getting rid of toxins as well as getting used to not having regular alcohol poured into it. Waking up brighter is a great reward for the hard work you are doing.

    • 20 days is awesome! And I wouldn’t discount any of your aches and pains. Your body goes through a lot of adjusting in those 1st few weeks. You’re probably more tense than you actually know you are. I took lots of hot soaks in Epsom salts in the beginning and was EXTRA kind to myself. Seriously – flowers, foods, naps. It really paid off.

20 days!! One more to 3 weeks! You’re gonna turn a corner. Hang in there. It’s really worth it. It’ll happen. You’ll see. Good luck!

    • I have the same symptoms and I think they are all related to no longer pouring booze into my body. They are getting better… very slowly.
