I am Morgan. I had to watch my beautiful daughter die last year after battling cancer for 5 years. I know she would not want me to waste the valuable years I may left. She was so short changed, I owe it to her and my other children to respect my body and life. I am lucky I haven’t had more complications given my habits and high stress. I don’t want to leave it to chance anymore

    • I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. Unimaginably sad and distressing . It is beautiful to think of you honouring her memory by respecting your body and life. Xxx

    Hi ClaireT

  • footloose posted a new activity comment 3 days, 10 hours ago

    Thankyou lee@
24 hours without a drink, day 1 done and dusted!
Can I ask did you have any health issues from your years of drinking?

Can’t wait to hit day 12, will feel incredible. Only ever managed 1-3 days before. Keep going and thankyou

  • Thank you to those who replied to my post, I am scared about day one as I normally start my day with a 2-3 wines. This morning…DAY 1, I have an orange juice in my hand.
I know many of you will cringe at the thought of wine before work, it wasn’t everyday but It became a habit so quickly. After it wore off hours later, i would feel like crap the rest of the day. But for some bizarre reason It gave me courage to face my day.
Life over the past 5 years has been too big!
So as instant my day, I want to thank you…it was so lovely to wake up to your replies of encouragement, I want drunk nightmare to stop.
    Have an awesome day everyone

    • Hi @footloose, yes, this does make me cringe but only because I had become a morning drinker as well, only I drank whiskey and did not stop all day. I know how awful it feels but the great news is that you can stop.
Commit to quitting and life gets so much better! You may experience some unpleasant detox symptoms for a few days but once that parts over life begins. Hang in there! You can do this!!

      • Thankyou lee@

    • I am day 1 today too . Had started a habit of drinking from 2.00pm so can relate to the crap feeling round about 8.00 at night . Drank a bottle of wine and that would be it but such a drain on my life . DaveH post to me this morning really helped . Every time I had a thought about drinking I just said IT HAS TO STOP and the weird thing was the urge disappeared . Also I took the dog for a walk at 2.00 and tried to shake up my routine . Came on here and read posts. This will get easier but we have to weaken the hardwired times we drink by not drinking . Every time we don’t drink it will weaken the intensity . We can do this together .

    • You sound determined to stop the nightmare, so you will. Some good plans are required, and if drinking all day, do you think a supported detox would be safer? It is a dangerous business if your body goes into shock without it, and even if not, a support person or 3, by your side could make all the difference.
Is your job really stressful? can you take a break?
Best wishes and keep posting! We will cheer you on every step of the way, every bit you cut down if you do it slowly.

Socialising is the hardest part to think about getting though. I come from a big family of drinkers, never struggled with it until the last 5 years. It is awesome being able to come on here and get that almost instance support. You’re amazing for gettin through that tough episode and still sober. Thank you for inspiring me xx

I know, the thought of being sober enough to enjoy going shopping again really appeals.
I’ve lost enjoyment in doing so many things that I use to love
