I hope you do get some early nights…all your hard work you deserve some peace. Ive been taking magnesium and 5http. Sleep central. I do spontaneously burst into tears (several times today infact!) but that feels cathartic in a way.

Nice one Daisy! Im right with you just on day 9 (yikes!) I feel it too (the temptation) but i can see the benefits past it now (more than a few days ago). Also i thought more of the withdrawal symptoms would have dissipated (how do you feel??) … like sweats, mild shakes, and a raw feeling swallowing (perhaps thats actual damage to my oesophagus !!) Maybe its a sign of how badly i needed to stop. Oh and extreme tiredness… sorry about the rant, im actually so happy and proud of myself. How are you finding day 8?! Yay us!

    • Yay us is right. I’m struggling with fatigue and depression- no pink cloud here. Moments of calmness and satisfaction- but not enough to keep me going.Taking one day at a time;)

Heya @katieandolive i know what you mean about replies! Stopping drinking is super hard for sure, but the more you lurk around this site and process your thoughts you will come to a decision about what you want to do. Just stay close and check in alot. You dont have to post anything but hopefully gain some insights from members here. Ive been on and off again drinking heavily for over 12 years? Never made it to a year sober (not even close tbh)…. Dont beat yourself up just keep trying!

  • Ducky posted a new activity comment 7 months, 2 weeks ago

Superb! 6 weeks is an excellent knock. Love your therapist! I survived a Xmas party in weekend by gripping and refilling my fancy ginger beer constantly….oh and eating lots (goes without saying!) 😋. Plus leaving early….not rude early, just civilised early. Gluck for that event, I bet you will step up and even enjoy it!

Gosh this made me a bit teary @soberheart and @auzange . A bit close to home for me!! Our kids are so precious. Lets do this!

  • Ducky posted a new activity comment 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Hi there @katieandolive. How are you feeling? How was the weekend?

  • Ducky posted an update 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Whats this? Herbal tea at breakfast?!?!.. no desperately glugging strong tea or coffee?! Yet another happy benefit of waking up sober to the beginnings of a fresh week 2. Was wobbly yesterday but i will be logged on here around 4pm for some moral support. Go warriors!!

  • Ducky posted a new activity comment 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Actually thats bang-on @jocord i think being busy has saved me this weekend and meant I made it to day 7 YE-AH. @shiann you must be a few days ahead?? I had my first registerable seismic wobble today but nothing came of it. Thank goodness… i was SO grateful that the clinking in my bag tonight was from gingerbeer i had had at a bbq and not sneaky wine bottles i would now have to hide.
So so tired now. Drinking Pukka night time tea and happily heading to bed. I intend to keep the busy-ness up this 2nd week. #headabovewater

    • Good job on the ginger beer plan for the bbq, @ducky!

Having a plan and being busy is def key for this gal! I had a super busy, fun weekend – my oldest boy turned 30 (hard to believe because for a lot of years now I’ve felt like I’m 32 haha) and so we had a bunch of good family things happening, and a whole lot of gratitude-y feelings. ☺️

I’m struggling a bit today (14 days) for the first time in a while. Probably because it’s a quiet day in with the pups – they need some cozy time after all the activity of the last few days. So, I think I’m going to go make some tea and root for the preoccupation to pass!

I hope all is well with y’all 😊

    Snap! Day 5

  • Ducky posted a new activity comment 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Hi @shiann hows it going? How’s is the plan going? I took my dog for a massive walk yesterday you will be pleased to know. I’ve been so slack on that front and she’s suffered too. So thanks for the inspiration. I may go for another shuffle this evening.

  • Ducky posted a new activity comment 7 months, 3 weeks ago

This is very cool. Good on you.

  • Ducky posted a new activity comment 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Hi @citygirl how’s day 6 going for you?? Some may say its too soon to call but I’m gonna go ahead and say Ive made it through Day 5 today. YE-AH. #feelingstrong #kindof

  • Ducky posted a new activity comment 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Hi @katieandolive. sorry you’re not feeling well. Can be a blessing if it gets you through a day or two without drinking. You will feel doubly well on the other side! I’m so pleased I’ve made it to day 5. I had a wobble this morning only because of the tiniest insecurity at work, truly nothing but enough for my mind go STRAIGHT to thinking of wine tonight. Omfg how weak is that. Luckily I gave myself an imaginary slap and sorted out my shit. I hope you made it through today and are feeling good for tonight?

  • Ducky posted a new activity comment 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Cool plan @shiann. Developing recipes sounds like a fun job too! No i havent anything solid like (plan-wise) that but then again this week has been pure upheaval with moving house. I will definitely start evening
dog walks again asap. Love doing that! And a fizzy drink… thought i might get some of those fever tea tonics. Yum!. My tricky time funnily is around 2pm when its my last chance to duck to the supie for wine that evening (before school is out). I don’t usually drink it then but thats when my panic sets in about not having any in the house that evening. If i can get to 5pm without having bought any then im usually ok.

  • Ducky posted a new activity comment 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Yay Yay horray! Im finishing Day 3… happily too. A friend gave me a bottle of wine today as a thankyou gift and I gave it right back saying ‘thanks but sorry I dont drink!!… she was all good. happy days im so glad youre back here. Look at you gracefully cruising into day 4. Easy!

    • @ducky and everyone else, first of all I seem to have no options to reply when someone mentions me in a comment. Not sure why, Second, I have not been successful. 🙁 I won’t stop trying. I don’t know why this is such a mind game! alcohol has such a hold over me.

  • Ducky posted a new activity comment 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Oh wow @shiann thats fantastic! Lets plan for another clear headed morning tomoro. Im going to supie now (in the morning as opposed to usual afternoon) so that i dont feel any pressure to buy wine. How do you plan to get through the arvo/ evening today??

    • That’s a smart plan @ducky! Avoiding the grocery at certain times is part of my strategy too! I just wrapped up a light workout – a super important piece for me – and I have my 4-6pm plan in place. That’s my tricky timeframe when I want to go to the store to buy wine or pour a 1st (of probably 4 or 5) glass. So…

      1.) Workout
      2.) 4-6pm plan (I’m US west coast)
      – walk the puppy
      – write or revise 1 new recipe (I’m a food biz gal)
      – have a BIG glass of fizzy water on ice with a teaspoon of cranberry maple syrup.

Once I get to 7ish, it’s traditionally been smooth sailing for me.

Do you have a certain stretch of time each day that’s hardest for you, too? How are you navigating it?

    • Cool plan @shiann. Developing recipes sounds like a fun job too! No i havent anything solid like (plan-wise) that but then again this week has been pure upheaval with moving house. I will definitely start evening

Too right you did well to stop after 2!
.. ..daytime drinks would’ve had me wobbling off to find more wine for sure!… or raiding the revolting spirit cabinet in garage for lack of anything else in the house. Ive had more day ones than you can throw a sober stick at so i totally get it. Choose not to have a drink today! And ill do the same. Ok?

Woken up just now (1.30am) by a thirsty dog who needed some water (not me, an actual dog) Felt crap and did my usual guilty check in on how much i drank in evening and where the bottles were hidden… but to my happy surprise I remembered that actually – instead I had made it to Day 3! And that I only felt crappy due to good old lack of sleep! (Plus exhaustion from moving house). Felt good enough to share. How are all of the other 1st weekers doing?? Holding in there? @katieandolive @shez @tim @ace123 @citygirl @etohout and no doubt LOTS of others … Smiling now and happily going back to sleep. Night night xxx

    • Great! Keep your sense of humor LOL!

    • Its a good feeling that never gets old no matter where you are in the journey.. YAY!! @ducky.

      • Too funny @ducky! I slipped on my first day. I had 2 drinks at lunch. But I give myself credit for not going to buy a bottle of wine to keep on drinking like I normally would have. On to today. Telling myself I won’t drink today. And I won’t. Won’t stop trying. I know I can do this.

  • Ducky posted an update 1 year ago

Hi team. Checking in and keeping myself accountable. Day 4. Very happy about that must say!!. Lovely sunny day. I’m sooo enjoying the fuzz free afternoon! I’ve already saved almost $100 (yes it’s a lot I know!). I wasn’t sure if the nausea & dull headache ive felt since Friday Is because of disulphrim or withdrawal. I suspect disulphrim,…it takes awhile to adjust to medicine I know. Scary if it’s withdrawal, but not entirely unlikely given my 2 bottle a night drinking! Yikes. Good luck & strength to all of you struggling out there. xx

    • Hiya! How are you? It gives me a headache for the first 2-3 weeks and a funny taste in my mouth but then it goes away.

Thanks so much. That’s really helpful and confirming of some ideas I had about it. Didn’t realise about 3 week entry course!…nor that it was sposed to be in-house. I went to the drop in centre the other day but those details weren’t mentioned. Probably not for me. Appreciate it thanks x

  • Ducky posted an update 1 year, 3 months ago

@mtedenmummy Hiya. Was it you who said you did the CADs intensive women’s 12 week course? Wondering what it is like…. or was it someone else?

    • Hi yeah it was me. Thoughts…

      – the content was useful in many ways
      – the contact with other women was mostly useful although we had a bit of a domino relapse thing happen in our group
      – the family involvement was really useful. My husband got a lot out of that
      – you have to do a three week course before you start it. That can be pretty full on as a lot of people go through that from drug court
      – it is meant to be run as an inpatient course. So in theory you do the lessons and then you spend the rest of the day walking and sleeping and exercising and having nice meals cooked for you. Instead you have four hours taken out of the day (3 days a week) and I still had to try to fit life in around that. You’re also expected to attend AA or NA meetings.

I pulled out of the course half way through because I felt like I just wanted to crack on with doing the things I had learnt.

Anything specific you would like to know?

      • Thanks so much. That’s really helpful and confirming of some ideas I had about it. Didn’t realise about 3 week entry course!…nor that it was sposed to be in-house. I went to the drop in centre the other day but those details weren’t mentioned. Probably not for me. Appreciate it thanks x

    • @ducky … it is based on an old programme that ran at Burwood Hospital in ChCh but there’s no money for that kind of thing anymore. Sigh.
      Are you struggling?

      • Ah ha yes struggling. Always!! But I’ve had several good periods of not drinking, including now so I’m feeling smug. Just also very aware of how precarious it all is… which makes me think I need more support/ community/ structure. It sounds like you’re doing well ? Super duper cool.

    • Hi Ducky. Hey I did an out patients course, 3 mornings per week, via Care NZ for 12 weeks (three years ago), there is one in Auckland- and can self refer. The course was great. Here is the link, http://www.carenz.co.nz/contact-us/
