Hello, supportive community! I’ve been lurking but not posting lately simply because it’s the beginning of a new school year and by the time a get a moment to check in, I’m exhausted. It’s been a great start and I’m feeling GOOD!

@Daveh, thank you for checking in! It’s going well! I’m back to work at the beginning of a new school year as an administrator, so it’s been hectic! Feeling good and ready to keep up the day to day victories. 🙂

Don’t discount your 20 days! That’s awesome! Sounds like you are ready to pick yourself up and keep going! Good for you!

  • Yahoo! I made it to double digits today! Ten days AF and I’m feeling SO much better! This community is truly my life line. Ready to start on my next 10 days!

  • Holy cow! I took a two hour nap today. I slept incredibly hard and had some VERY weird dreams! I know it’s part of the process, but those dreams were SO strange! I do enjoy the deep sleep, though!

    • haven’t had too many weird dreams yet? two restless sleeps with night sweats was pretty ugly tho…. getting better now. Glad you got a good rest!

Thank you! Looking forward to continuing my AF journey and losing the aches and pains soon!

  • Finishing day 8 and loving how I feel each morning. However, the last 3 days, I have gotten terrible headaches around 3:30pm accompanied by fatigue and pretty intense body aches and joint pain. By 7 or 8pm, I start to feel better again. Not sure if this is part of the process or not and wondering if anyone else has experienced these types of symptoms.

    • Sounds very familiar to me – are you keeping hydrated? I slept a huge amount in the first couple of weeks as the system readjusts quite dramatically. It’s quite usual to have a sort of dip in the afternoon, anyway so perhaps have a snack on something sweet, that might help the headache. I get those symptoms of fatigue with an iron deficiency so perhaps check you’re getting enough of that. Good to know it passes. Great stuff on day 8 and those bright mornings are a boon xx

    • Hi Yup I felt really odd on and off for at least two weeks. First weekend I was like a zombie, felt like I was packed out with cotton wool, really emotional and achy, odd sweats then freezing. Scary. Its the body beginning to repair, and for that it needs heaps of energy,
and will do for the next few months. I ‘m on day 22 and only last few days have noticed any significant improvement. Keep going Hun just gotta go through it and you’ve done the worst bit I promise, hang on you’re doing brilliantly xxx 😊

    • Headaches and unusual pains were common for me too. After a while they became less frequent and more manageable. Keep up the great fight, it’s a marathon not 100metres. But god it’s great when the body feels normal. In my frequent attempts I always found days 4 and 5 the worst so I agree with @noodle71 you are over the worst. Keep smiling and enjoy the clear head esp the mornings.

    • I am on day 29, and reading your post have just realised I am feeling more energised, I was so tired first couple of weeks, but it does pass xx

    • @cleareyes This was part of the process for me. It has now passed and I feel a lot better.

Day 7 and I am in bed and totally sober on a Friday night. Thanks to the support from this site, I didn’t cave on my very rough day 5. Wishing you all a glorious, clear headed weekend!

Thanks so much for the support! I did get through it and I’m now in my pajamas, relaxed and checking in with you all!

Love the advice! Thank you! Yes, I too, can never stop with just one glass of wine. It’s usually MUCH more!

  • cleareyes posted a new activity comment 1 month ago

Thank you! I’m home in my pajamas and the feeling has passed. I appreciate the words of wisdom and support!

    • So glad you made it through! Honestly, after building up some time you’ll lose that feeling. There will be one day you realize you forgot all about drinking because you were thinking about something else. That day is not too far off!

  • cleareyes posted an update 1 month ago

Struggling a bit on day 5. Wanting to go home from work and have some wine. Checking in here because I know you all understand and want me to stay the course!

    • Yep, we want you to stay the course! These last couple of days to day 8 and thus week 2 are tough! Before you leave work make sure you have a big AF drink and a snack. Focus on getting home even if it’s to hide your head under the covers just to get through the night. This is the hardest week and you’ve almost made it through! Who wants to go through another day 1? xo

      • Thank you!

    • You can do this!! I know that feeling all too well of wanting to relax after a stressful day of work with a glass of chilled white. Well that turns into a bottle for me, slurring in front of my kids pretending I’m not buzzed, eventually passing out around 9:30 and then waking at 3:00 am, dehydrated, heart racing, with the worst shame and guilt … “Why oh why did I drink again” thoughts racing through my head. Stay strong. It does get easier … you just have to build some new habits when you get home. Do something lovely for yourself. Manicure, bubble bath, scented candles. And I agree with wise @jocord you’re almost done with the hardest week!! Don’t make yourself repeat it. 😊❤️

      • Love the advice! Thank you! Yes, I too, can never stop with just one glass of wine. It’s usually MUCH more!

    • No no @cleareyes! Don’t do it! You do not want another day 1. I know too well you don’t. Take a walk, eat, play games anything but drink. You got this! Hoping you popped that urge on its nose!

    • I hear ya it’s torture. Knowing its gonna happen, alcohol free wine -Edenvale is nice-and to a degree white knuckling it, being shitty (you’re allowed) going for a grumpy walk, eating, anything, and visualising tomorrow morning waking up having got through it all worked for me. Visualising what’s so great about having a wine also helped, it’s not gonna be one face it it’s gonna be at least one bottle, then you’re tired irrational, pain in the arse, boring once again for all around. Realising I was actually the least cool person in the room and people were actually laughing at me, people who in reality were not nice people and worthy of kissing my arse at any time gave me the strength to stick two fingers up to them and alcohol. So if that works-use it!! Hang on!!

      • I love the visualizing technique. That really does help! Thanks for the support and advice!

Hi @getclear! Just checking in to see how you are feeling today!

  • cleareyes posted a new activity comment 1 month ago

@getclear, please know that you have many people here supporting you! The fact that you are posting on this site shows that you want to be successful! That’s awesome! Is there a friend or loved one you can talk to about these feelings? A physician, perhaps, that could help with a therapist referral or some medications? I’m not a professional in this area but I care about you! Please don’t give up and keep close to this site. I want to hear from you!

    • Thanks@cleareyes, guess you’re right because I do lurk here but honestly wtf? I know how to do it but I just don’t. I don’t do doctors….there’s history there. Maybe should look into an addiction counselor…have not tried that

  • cleareyes posted a new activity comment 1 month ago

Thank you! Hoping I have learned from this and can move forward.

  • cleareyes posted an update 1 month ago

I’m back and tremendously regretting ever drifting away from this site. From Christmas Eve until early April, I stayed close and was AF. Spring break hit, I went on vacation, and gave into the old thought processes that convinced me I deserved to have a little fun and a “few” drinks. Well, those few drinks turned into a nightly ritual, once again, and it’s taken me until now to admit it. So, here I am at day 2, again, ready to cling to this support system and regain my freedom.

  • Checking in to say hello to all my LS pals. I’ve been so busy with work and home but all is much more manageable AF!

  • cleareyes posted a new activity comment 5 months, 1 week ago

This is simply wonderful! I’m so happy for you and congratulations on 18 days, @dreamer88! You’ve made it through 2 weekends already!

  • This may sound weird, but I just love going to bed sober! I love the feeling of snuggling into the blankets, revisiting the events of the day in my mind, saying prayers of gratitude and drifting off to sleep knowing I will awake with no hangover!

  • I worked about 75 plus hours this week. I’m so tired I can’t move from the couch. Not even to get food! Thankful for my job but feeling that sense of no balance creeping back into my life. I struggle with that in all areas, clearly. Any suggestions, LS pals?

    • Hi cleareyes, I like your screen pic. I think that sounds overwhelming. Whatever you can do to look after yourself, to rest. For me, exercise and meditation balances me. : )

    • I would say to make sure to carve out a bit of time for yourself. No matter what.
I wake up a half hour early each day before work to be able to enjoy my coffee, read posts and just enjoy the silence.

    • Yeah, you need a non-negotiable everyday. Stand your ground. In these times, I think people accept and admire it when others say “No, no, and no! This time is just for me so I can be there for you at another time.”

  • Rough, rough day yesterday but I didn’t drink, so that’s a win. Got up this morning and realized I’m at 70 days. Not in the mood for writing one of my silly poems, but grateful I’ve made it this far. Thanks for the support, LS pals. Have a miraculous day!

  • cleareyes posted a new activity comment 5 months, 2 weeks ago

I’m so sorry you are struggling right now. Reaching out for help is a great first step to the life you deserve. Do you have anyone you can call?

  • Went out to eat with my husband tonight. He hasn’t had alcohol for over 6 years so no problem there. What I noticed was a woman sitting near us that had a full glass of wine when we came in. After an hour, the glass was still over half full. I never was able to sip wine that slowly! I would have had at least 2 glasses if not more in that amount of time! Glad to sip my water and know that I’m doing what’s best for me.

    • Congrats on sticking with it. Yeah. I am constantly amazed by people who don’t drink (or need to drink) that much. I always thought everyone wanted to get drunk but it was likely just me 🙁

    • I was always amazed at people who would leave half a glass of wine at the table when they left a restaurant.. like who does that??!!

    • I used to be the first one up to get another beer at BBQs.
When I offered to grab the others one, most of the time they still had beer…
I remember thinking ” their letting their beer get warm drinking so slow.”
Reality was I could never drink slow and never left a drink.

    • Where do I find Mrs D’s story?

Good for you @kerryjean! Sounds like we had the same kind of day yesterday. I had some pretty intense cravings too. Went to bed early and now I’m glad I did! Here’s to another AF day!

  • Happy Friday from the southeastern United States! Weekends can be tough for me in this journey to live AF. At 66 days, I’ve made it through a few weekends sober, but the default thinking of weekends mean drinking is still there. I’m so thankful for the support of my LS pals!

    • I’m right there with you. I only have 34 days and weekends we’re my way to drink and relax ( if you want to call it that) after a challenging work week or whatever reason I gave myself as an excuse to drink.

    • It might be helpful to look at the weekend as just another day of the week. Not something to be celebrated with drinking because you made it through the week. Weekends don’t have to be long, boring and dry. But they might be at first until you learn what to do. Plan moments of kindness and escape for yourself throughout each day. Soon you will enjoy getting up each day feeling good, especially on Monday morning!

  • cleareyes posted a new activity comment 5 months, 3 weeks ago

    Very miraculous!!!

  • I love this quote by from Jon Gordon’s book, THE NO COMPLAINING RULE: Today, shift your perspective and realize it’s not about having to do anything. Life is not an obligation. It’s a gift. Replace “Have To” with “Get To.” Focus on gratitude and you’ll find yourself feeling blessed instead of stressed.

So, today GET to go to work and I GET to live this beautiful life AF!! And I GET to check in with this amazingly supportive group each day. And I GET to wish you all a wonderful day!!

  • Good Monday morning from the Southeastern United States! Another day that we get to participate in this journey together! Wishing all of you a wonderful day!

Have a wonderful day! So glad you were able to spend time with your children! My daughters live in California, too!

    • That is so cool that your daughter is also in California. My son is near San Francisco. He is a manager for Amazon.
